That's the question I set out to answer not so very long ago, just after I had gotten married (for the second time).With the help of my new husband I started a documentary film called...
It started as a quest for the secret to happy and successful marriages. Through the process I hoped that we, too, would find the key to our own marital bliss.
Well, things didn't go exactly according to plan, but
still, I sure did discover a few very interesting things

Schermerhorns directoral debut, Seeking 1906 , about best-selling author
Simon Winchester and the making of his book on the Great San Francisco
Earthquake, (KQED/PBS) won Kate a Northern California Emmy
in 2007. The film was also nominated in the best historical/cultural feature category. The San Francisco Chronicle called the film sublimefascinating Kate has also directed several short films and is an accomplished photographer and the author of America's Idea of a Good Time , a photography book looking at Americas pursuit of happiness. Kate's photos have been widely published and exhibited.

Chris has worked for ITVS, the Los Angeles Film Festival, AFI FEST, and Next Wave Films, Peter Brodericks finishing funds company that provided completion funds for Chris Nolans first film and numerous award-winning documentaries. The director and editor of numerous short films, Holbrook is currently in post-production on his first feature-length film, a documentary about the controversial French delicacy foie gras. He is also the founder and producer of Rough Cuts, a documentary work-in-progress series that was recently profiled in the San Francisco Chronicle.
Laurie Lezin-Schmidt, Editor, Co-Producer, Co-Writer
Lauries editing credits including Easy Money (PBS), Girl Trouble (Independent Lens on PBS), The Real Dirt on Farmer John (Independent Lens on PBS), Outlaws and Lawmen (The Discovery Channel), and The Castro (PBS, Peabody Award winner). Laurie was also the editor and co-producer of Schermerhorns Seeking 1906 (PBS). Her films have garnered Emmy Awards, and, for Girl Trouble , the Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco Film Festival.

After Happily Ever After is filmmaker Kate Schermerhorns quirky, funny and moving personal quest for the secret to a happy marriage and for answers to some timely questions about an institution that, surprisingly, is rarely examined in any comprehensive way:
Why do 90% of Americans marry when half of those marriages will end in divorce? What better alternatives, if any, exist? Is marriage entering a new phase, a better and more flexible one or is it becoming obsolete?
